Negatice Space

While attending the Fine Studio Art degree program at Hunter College I was living in a hotel for women on 57th Street in NYC. One night I went out on the roof overlooking the incredible cityscape. I had been struggling to understand what Professor Bob Huit meant about negative space. I was seeing one dimensionally almost flat like Egyptian art. Suddenly I saw it. The buildings as a shape under the darker shape of the sky triggered the concept of space(object as being two distinct visuals. I saw the buildings asveolid  matter and the sky as the negative empty space. The perspective helped me let go of a visual belief. I was in my 30s. Better late than never.

Purpose
